Geoscientist/Geologist
(
Immediate Employment Opportunity)

Horizon Environmental Services, Inc. is seeking to hire an experienced Texas Licensed Professional Geoscientist/Geologist.  Desired skills include experience conducting geologic assessments in Texas and the Austin area, as well as Environmental Assessments pursuant to requirements set forth in the City of Austin Land Development Code Section 25-8-121.  Other preferred areas of experience include project management, and preparation of project scopes and budgets.  Familiarity with additional environmental regulatory considerations including threatened or endangered species and cultural resource issues is also desired.  Interested parties should provide résumés and professional references to Horizon’s Ecological Group Manager, Mr. Shannon Dorsey, at "shannon_dorsey at horizon-esi.com."  Mr. Dorsey can be reached at (512) 328-2430 during normal business hours.

Requirements:

Candidates must minimally possess the following:

  • B.A./B.S. or other qualifying degree in Geological Science or a closely related field.
     

  • M.A./M.S. or other qualifying degree in Geological Science or a closely related field.
     

  • Hold a license or registration as a professional geoscientisit/geologist in the State of Texas
     

  • Have a minimum of 5 years of continuous or equivalent professional experience with geologic assessments, including at least 2 years of supervisory/management experience.
     

  • Have in hand (or be able to obtain) TxDOT pre-certifications in the relevant categories
     

  • The demonstrated ability to work unsupervised as well as to perform as a productive and enthusiastic part of a professional team.

Candidates possessing the following additional certification will be highly considered:

  • Registered Environmental Professional, Registered Environmental Property Assessor, Registered Environmental Manager (or similar)

Project Manager - Electric Transmission Line
(Immediate Employment Opportunity)

Job Description:

Horizon Environmental Services, Inc. is seeking to hire a Project Manager with experience in the routing and permitting of electric transmission lines.  Desired skills include the management and preparation of RUS Environmental Reports; state public utility commission EAs/CCNs; Section 404 Permit applications; and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans.  Familiarity with additional environmental regulatory considerations including threatened or endangered species and cultural resource issues and expert testimony experience is also desired. 

General Responsibilities:

Proposal preparation; project management; fieldwork; report preparation; client and agency interaction; and marketing Horizon’s services to the electric utility industry.

Candidates must minimally possess the following:

  • B.A., M.A. /M.S. or other qualifying degree closely related to Environmental Planning or Environmental Sciences.  An advanced degree is preferred.

  • 5 years or more of continuous or equivalent professional experience, including at least 2 years of supervisory/management experience related to the permitting of facilities for the electric utility industry. 

  • Understanding of environmental requirements for state public utility commission approvals, particularly in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

  • Understanding of RUS environmental policies and procedures, NEPA, CWA regulations, and Section 106 of the NHPA.

  • Ability to generate a substantial portion of his/her own work load.

Ability to work unsupervised as well as to become a productive and enthusiastic part of a team.

Wetland Biologist

  • Junior Wetland Biologists will have a minimum of 2 years of continuous or equivalent professional experience Wetland Biology, including at least 6 months of supervisory/management experience.

  • Thorough understanding of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act

  • Demonstrated experience with preparation and successful acquisition of Nationwide and Individual Permit application packages.

  • Have in hand (or be able to obtain) Texas Department of Transportation precertifications in the relevant categories \

  • The ability to work unsupervised as well as to form a productive and enthusiastic part of a team.

Candidates possessing the following additional qualifications will be highly considered:

  • PWS – Professional Wetland Scientist

**Candidate will be expected to generate a substantial portion of his/her own project load as a condition of continuing employment.**
